Three surprising facts you might not know about Vitamin D

We’ve become accustomed to Vitamin D dominating the newspaper column inches over the past 18 months, with Public Health England publishing updated advice that 10 micrograms of vitamin D are needed daily for healthy bones and muscles, and other research linking high rates of vitamin D deficiency in people with COVID-19 who experienced acute respiratory failure.
But what of some of the more surprising facts about Vitamin D? Let’s take a look.

Vitamin D May Help Fight Sunburn
We get vitamin D through absorbing it through our skin, but a recent study found that it might also be helpful when taken shortly after experiencing a sunburn. It created an anti-inflammatory action and helped reduce swelling and pain, so if you've been burned, reach for the aloe vera and the Sunshine Gummy!

Research Indicates It Might Also Be Useful For Fertility
For women trying to conceive naturally,  higher vitamin D levels are associated with higher odds of conception. But maintaining normal vitamin D levels is important for men as well. Studies have found a direct relationship between vitamin D levels and an improved ability of sperm to begin a pregnancy, both during ovulation induction and timed intercourse. Normal vitamin D levels have also been linked to healthy semen quality and sperm motility (movement), which may help improve pregnancy rates.

Vitamin D Boosts Weight Loss
In one recent study, people taking vitamin D supplements were able to lose more weight than subjects taking a placebo supplement. The scientists said the extra vitamin D had an appetite-suppressing effect.
In another study, overweight people who took a daily vitamin D supplement improved their heart disease risk markers.
